Hello and welcome to Northern Ballet’s audio brochure.

Northern Ballet is the UK’s leading narrative dance company, touring extensively throughout the UK and internationally. Northern Ballet is unique in bringing together stunning classical dance, vivid, exciting theatre and live music to create productions based on well-known stories.

Northern Ballet has paved the way in creating accessible opportunities for visually impaired audiences to engage with first class entertainment. The company provides an ideal introduction for first time ballet visitors and the quality, originality and theatricality keeps audiences coming back for more.

This recording provides an insight into an audio described day with Northern Ballet. We have devised our own unique program of activities that support the audio description.

We encourage you to arrive at the theatre at 10.15am to join us on a tour of the stage, scenery and props. You can get up close to discover the scale and texture of the set, and stand in the place of the dancers. Following the tour, you can take part in a workshop designed to let you meet the dancers and musicians, be creative and above all have fun exploring the shapes and quality of the movement. You do not need to be an experienced dancer. You can enjoy the workshop from the comfort of your chair, or for the more energetic why not have a go and partner up with one of our dancers and let them guide you through a scene from the ballet step by step?

Don’t worry if you can’t be at the theatre all day our Audio Describer will give a detailed description of the set, costumes, scenario and characters 30 minutes before the performance in the pre-show notes.

The performance will then be brought to life in your minds eye with a detailed description of the movement, action and drama that takes place to the music as it is played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Beauty and the Beast

Discover the magic that can happen when you look beneath the surface with Northern Ballet’s new Beauty & the Beast this Christmas.

A handsome Prince is transformed into a Beast as punishment for his ugly arrogance. Only true love can break the spell - but who could love a monster like him?

A beautiful young woman is sent to live with the Beast. Despite the riches and attention he lavishes upon her, she is unable to love him as anything more than a friend.

As this classic story unfolds in an enchanting world inhabited by fairies, sprites and goblins, we discover that beauty is more than skin deep.

See the Company sparkle in a kaleidoscope of colour and Haute couture-style costumes, as breathtaking dancing is accompanied by an infectious score including music by Bizet, Debussy, Poulenc and Saint-Saëns, played live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Set to delight adults and children alike, book now as Northern Ballet bring a new magic to this timeless fairytale.
