Dancers

Lucia Solari
Lucia was born in Montevideo, Uruguay and grew up in Italy and Germany. She trained with Mme Alla Osipenko in Italy and at the Brenda Hamlyn Ballet School in Florence where she graduated in the Enrico Cecchetti method. In 1998 she won the Premio Danza & Danza (Porselli Award) for the best young Italian dancer and later won a scholarship for the School of the Hamburg Ballet which she attended from1999 to 2001. In 2000 she was awarded a scholarship from the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation.
This summer we welcomed 10 new dancers to the Company and saw a host of promotions. Below are the headshots of all our dancers this season (all taken by Simon Lawson except Hironao Takahashi's taken by Justin Slee) with links to their biographies.
Kevin Poeung
Kevin is from Montpelier in France. He joined Northern Ballet in 2012 having trained at English National Ballet School. Learn more about Kevin Where did you do your dance training? National School of Dance, Marseille and English National Ballet School. What made you want to be a dancer? My mother transferred her passion to me. She always wanted to become a ballerina but she never could. Her and my  father put me in a ballet class and since then I have never stopped.
Matthew Topliss
Matthew was born in Boston, Lincolnshire but has lived in Yorkshire for the past 11 years. He is a graduate of Northern Ballet Academy CAT scheme and continued his training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He joined Northern Ballet in 2012. Learn more about Matthew Where were you born and raised? I was born in Boston, Lincolnshire. I spent most of my childhood in Grimsby but have lived in West Yorkshire for about 10 years.
Joseph Taylor
Joseph is from Skegness. He joined Northern Ballet in 2012 from Elmhurst School for Dance. Learn more about Joseph Where were you born and raised? I was born and raised in Skegness, a small town on the east coast of Lincolnshire, which really was a great place to grow up.
Olivia Holland
Olivia was born in London and raised in Bath. She trained at the Royal Ballet School and completed her training at Elmhurst School for Dance. She joined Royal Ballet of Flanders before moving to Northern Ballet in 2012. Learn more about Olivia Where were you born and raised? I was born in London, then I was raised in Saltford near Bath where I spent most of my childhood as well as at the Royal Ballet School in Richmond.
Mariana Rodrigues
Mariana was born in Lisbon, Portugal and joined Northern Ballet in 2012 from the Royal Ballet School. Learn more about Mariana Where were you born and raised? I was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal. Where did you do your dance training? I trained at the National Conservatory Dance School in Lisbon and at the Royal Ballet School.
Luisa Rocco
Luisa is from Brazil. She trained at the Academie de Danse Classique Princesse Grace in Monte Carlo and has performed with Scottish Ballet and the Royal Swedish Ballet. She joined Northern Ballet in 2012. Learn more about Luisa Where were you born and raised? Limeira, Brazil.
Sean Bates
Sean is from Milton Keynes. He trained at the Royal Ballet School and joined Northern Ballet in 2012. Learn more about Sean Where were you born and raised? Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. At what age did you start dancing? Age 3. Where did you train? The Royal Ballet Lower and Upper Schools. Awards/nominations/prizes Young British Dancer of the Year 2009 – 2nd place.
Isaac Lee-Baker
Issac was born in London and trained at the Royal Ballet School. He joined Northern Ballet in 2012. Learn more about Isaac Where did you do your dance training?
