Although it may not seem like it with this weather, the summer is here and so our regular classes are drawing to a close for the summer holidays. To mark the end of term and to celebrate a couple of significant birthdays (I obviously can’t give their ages away, but you wouldn’t believe me anyway as their youthful looks belie their years), our Dancing for the Over 55s class held a picnic lunch after their class this week.
Friday was a day of recovery for the Learning team as the START project came to an end for another year. On Thursday we had 550 young people (plus their teachers) watching the performance of Madame Butterfly at Leeds Grand Theatre and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric.
As the lead artist on the Easter Course I’m getting really excited as we will be working in partnership with International Puppet Artist and Physical Theatre Performer, Rebekha Caputo.
This brochure related the performances at Leeds Grand Theatre on Thursday 29 December, 2011 and has since expired. It is kept here for archive purposes. Do you want to try something different? Do you want to be part of a wheelchair dance group? Then come along to our workshops and give it a try! In March and May, the Learning team held taster sessions for the Wheelchair Dance project, offering young people in Leeds who are wheelchair users, the chance to try some dance.
Join Northern Ballet this summer for a week of exciting dance and look at the city of Leeds from a whole new angle. Our Dance in the City summer school takes place from 22–26 August and offers a new perspective on Leeds through creative dance sessions which will have you dancing in the streets. Based in the heart of the city at Northern Ballet on Quarry Hill our state-of-the art dance studios provide an inspirational setting for all aspiring dancers.
At the end of March Northern Ballet played host to nearly 500 children from all around Leeds as paart of the START project. The project, supported by the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, enables young people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to access the arts, to take part in dance activities and to visit local theatres. In this podcast you can hear their feedback on their day with us and see lots of photos of them taking part.
