Wuthering Heights

Behind the scenes at Northern Ballet HQ we've been working hard to create new marketing images for Romeo and Juliet and Wuthering Heights that capture the essence of these passionate love stories.
Following the announcement that Northern Ballet is to première an adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 by Jonathan Watkins in September 2015, the Leeds-based Company, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary year, has released details of its plans for spring 2015 with a season of iconic love stories giving 134 performances across 28 venues in the UK.
As Dracula prepared to return for the first time in five years, we spoke to Senior Wardrobe Manager Mikhaila Pye to find out just what it takes to get our dancers on stage in their Victorian finest... How soon do you start preparing the wardrobe for the revival of a production? We start planning the wardrobe for a revival as soon as possible, or as soon as we get the casting for a production. We got the Dracula costumes back from storage before the summer break at the end of June.
This week we welcome our dancers back to Leeds after being out on tour for for almost a month. It's nice to have them back in the building where rehearsals and creativity are top of the agenda as everyone prepares for the final performances of the season with the Mixed Programme at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.
You can watch Northern Ballet dancers in a special version of Ugly Duckling today at 11am & 5pm on CBeebies.

In the kitchen at Wuthering Heights, Cathy and her brother Hindley are playing together, waiting for their father to return. He arrives home with a ragged child known as Heathcliff. As they grow older Cathy and Heathcliff spend their time together on the desolate moors where the bond between them grows closer, with Hindley remaining on the outside of their intense relationship. Years later Cathy and Hindley’s father dies and Hindley becomes master of Wuthering Heights. He takes his revenge upon Heathcliff, delighting in his degradation and humiliation.
As children they are inseparable, running wild and free on the moors, but over time their childish affection deepens into an overwhelming love – a devastating force that even death cannot destroy. Northern Ballet is one of the UK's leading ballet companies whose dancers' ability to capture the spirit of their characters draws audiences into the story in a way that makes our productions more than just dance.
