Northern Ballet has been shortlisted for two UK Theatre Awards. The Company has been nominated in the category of achievement in dance for The Great Gatsby and achievement in marketing for The Great Gatsby communications campaign.
The Great Gatsby was choreographed by Northern Ballet’s Artistic Director David Nixon OBE. It received its world premiere in Leeds in March 2013 and was seen by more than 52,000 people in nine major venues across the UK. By the time the tour ended at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London in May 2013 it had generated more than £1.2m of ticket sales. The Great Gatsby will return to the Northern Ballet repertoire in autumn 2014.
Mark Skipper, Northern Ballet’s Chief Executive said, “We’re delighted The Great Gatsby has been recognised in this way. The nominations are testament to the artistic quality of the production and the creativity of the team who produced it. They also reflect the involvement and commitment of every member of staff at Northern Ballet who play their role in the success of our ballets, our tours and the Company as a whole.”
The UK Theatre Awards are organised by the Theatrical Management Association (TMA) and are the only nationwide awards to honour outstanding achievement in regional theatre throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The winners of the awards will be announced on Sunday 20th October at London’s historic Guildhall.
