Preparations are well underway for our Open House 2014 on Saturday 15 February and we can’t wait to welcome you to explore our home and discover more about life behind-the-scenes at Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre.
During the day our resident Physiotherapists are on hand to offer completely free mini-Physiotherapy consultations. Chartered Physiotherapist Liz Atha tells us what to expect.
The Amazing Adventures of Don Quixote - from the Archive
Christopher Gable took over as Artistic Director or Northern Ballet Theatre in 1987 and in 1988 the Company staged a lavish production of The Amazing Adventures of Don Quixote, choreographed by Michael Pink.
This photo shows dancer Julia Sommers as Dulcina with Christopher Gable as the eponymous Don Q in the dream sequence from act 2.
On Wednesday 29 January I braved the weather and trekked north with graduate dancers Curtis Pooley and Madeleine Bantick for a special fashion shoot in Edinburgh; and to spread the word about the UK première of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo's Romeo and Juliet at Edinburgh Festival Theatre 26-28 February.
I have recently been on a two day training course with Stopgap Dance Company exploring inclusive dance teaching. It was an inspiring couple of days and I really enjoyed meeting different teachers and dancers from across Yorkshire. The time and space to work with different teachers allowed me to research deeper in to different techniques to ensure our offer of dance at Northern Ballet is accessible, innovative and inspiring.
We are exploring new ways of engaging people with learning more about ballet through online applications. We have been working with Bedford Interactive through funding from the Arts Council England to develop software and content that can be used to develop dance appreciation skills and we would like feedback on using it. We'd like you to try out the app and tell us what you think.
