Northern Ballet Academy are starting a number of new classes for adults in September. We will be continuing to run our ever popular adult ballet classes for all levels but will also be introducing Pilates and a brand new concept ‘Ballet Fusion’.
Ballet Fusion will be a fitness class based around ballet technique and basic principles of proper posture and core stability whilst getting your heart pumping. It has been designed to improve the students flexibility and over all fitness in a friendly atmosphere.
Welcome back to Northern Ballet Academy – round-up of what’s coming and up and the summer months. We hope you are all well rested and had a good summer. A warm welcome back to the Academy. We have lots of exciting and challenging things in the pipeline for this year.
I finished my previous blog with the piano tuner about to arrive at my home in preparation for the rehearsal with pianist Benjamin Frith last week. That job has needed doing for a while, and I was glad that the rehearsal pushed me to finally make the call. I’m not much of a pianist myself to be honest, but quite enjoy messing around at the keyboard, often trying to improvise on the songs of Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Jerome Kern etc. However, after my session with Ben I felt as if my piano was looking at me rather disdainfully as if to say, “Now that’s PROPER piano playing!”
The Chris Moyles Show on Radio One was broadcast last Friday from Chris’s hometown of Leeds so all of us nice people at Northern Ballet delivered them a hearty welcome with freshly made goodies from our Northern Ballet Café Bar.
Chris and the team breakfasted on freshly made scones, Victoria sponge cake, bacon and sausage butties, poached egg and ham sandwiches. It was a veritable crate of goodies!
On the last occasion that I was writing on this page, I was hard at work preparing for the previous concert at Quarry Hill along with my colleagues Sue Hall and Sasha Volpov. That was in June, and it seems quite a long time ago now. The Northern Ballet season had just finished, and here we are only a couple of weeks away from our first rehearsals for Hamlet. Now I am focussing on preparing for the next event in the series, my violin and piano recital with Benjamin Frith on 1 September.
