On May 13th you will be asked to ‘Don’t Just Sit There’ but watch and get involved in the performances from our Cultural Partners in this one-off showcase featuring

David Nixon, Martha Leebolt, Tobias Batley and I attended a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate young people in the performing arts. The event was hosted by HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

We arrived at 5.15 and passed through the main gates, walking across the courtyard and around the inner quadrangle to the main entrance. We followed the red carpet up the staircase and into the Portrait Gallery for champagne and canapes.

Everyone here at Northern Ballet would like to wish Prince William and Catherine Middleton a wonderful wedding and a long and happy life together.

Your special day has lifted the hearts of this nation, may you share a lifetime of happiness together.

Much love

Hannah Bateman

May the two of you spend a happy life together. Enjoy your day as the world enjoys it with you.

Best wishes

Some of the 470 young people who are involved in the START project have given us feedback on our Days of Dance which took place at Northern Ballet at the end of March. The START project, supported by the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, enables young people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to access the arts, to take part in dance activities and to visit local theatres.

Looking for Lowry - A film by Margy Kinmouth featuring Sir Ian McKellan

Looking for Lowry is a new documentary by film maker Margy Kinmouth about the works of the Salford artist famous for his Matchstick Men and inspiration for Northern Ballet's A Simple Man.

The film features Sir Ian McKellen, Noel Gallagher and a host friends and admirers of Lowry's work as they discover more about his life, his upbringing and living under the thumb of a mother who didn't like him to paint.
