Over January and February I have been travelling around Yorkshire delivering Open Days to give young enthusiastic dancers a taste of what it is like to train with Northern Ballet Academy. Along with a member of the Academy admin department and a pianist we have been waking up early on Sunday mornings to set off to show the next generation of dancers how they can benefit from our training in relaxed and fun workshops.
After registering and quick introductions the hard work begins. The students are given a technique class focusing on core strength and performance. Although there are many laughs during the class the improvement students make in such a short time is often amazing. Next up is the enhancement class which includes creative work, where the students get to let their imaginations run away with them and let the inner actors/actresses inside them free.
By this time there is a wave of excitement coming over the students as they start to realise it’s nearly time for the parents to come in and see a glimpse of what we have been doing. After a short demonstration the students and I can relax as our hard work is done. A short presentation about our training programmes and a question and answer sessions concludes the day. The students leave having worked up a good appetite for a Sunday dinner, having learnt many tips they can remember to improve their technique but most of all having had a good time in the process.
All the workshops have been a huge success and with a sold out date on the 20th February we are adding another date on 27th February. We might not be Take That but our workshops sell out just as quick as their concerts. Book now before it’s too late!
The workshop on 27th February will be from 10.15-12.30 in our brand new building. It is open to students aged 10-12, contact us now to book your place:
