As our Autumn tour continues, we are bringing Christmas early this year with the return of A Christmas Carol to celebrate its 21st Anniversay. The first stop for Scrooge and the Christmas ghosts is Norwich. As this was my first ime in the Norwich I did some investigating into what life is like working in the theatre and I interviewed the lovely Amelia Goymer, Box Office Assistant at Norwich Theatre Royal.
What is your job title?
I work in the Box Office department of Norwich Theatre Royal as a Box Office Assistant.
How long have you been working at Theatre Royal Norwich?
Since March 2008 so just over 5 years!
Describe a typical day in the Box Office?
The Box Office team begin the day at 9am in which we will perform administrative tasks such as; Splitting and dividing the tickets, checking all the tickets for errors and then getting them ready for the post. (Then a quick coffee run for everyone!) At 9:30am we then begin taking phone calls, and serving on the Box Office counter. Throughout the day the team will send out letters to patrons, organising group bookings and promote the upcoming shows which are in the season’s brochure. Sometimes we may be asked to assist other departments in their administrations, and as not many people are aware that the box office is commonly used as a booking agency for a number of other theatres and venues around Norwich we are always at hand to take a booking.
What is the best aspect of the role?
Being able to provide a more friendly personal service to patrons when booking their theatre tickets compared to a booking system via a website online.
As we are doing A Christmas Carol, what is your favourite thing about Christmas?
Food! Glorious food! And the smell of mulled wine.
