Japanese Tea & Biscuits
I'm having a good day today – not only because the sun is shining but because I have just been to a lovely Japanese tea morning at John Jamieson School which is a school for pupils with learning difficulties in East Leeds. A group of 12 pupils aged 16 - 19 from the school took part in the START project recently which enabled them to go to Leeds Grand Theatre to see Madame Butterfly and to take part in a dance workshop inspired by the production. DAZL, Beauty Workshops & START ending
There were a few tears as Butterfly danced her final dance and the sound of over 500 young people clapping and cheering for the company brought a tear to my eye. I think it’s safe to say that for those whose first visit to the theatre it was will most definitely be returning! Last Thursday marked the end of the 2012 START project with the young participants joining us at Leeds Grand Theatre for the matinee performance of Madame Butterfly. START Project 2012
Friday was a day of recovery for the Learning team as the START project came to an end for another year. On Thursday we had 550 young people (plus their teachers) watching the performance of Madame Butterfly at Leeds Grand Theatre and the atmosphere in the theatre was electric. If you've never been to the Grand Theatre before, and most of the pupils taking part in the project haven't, it is an amazing place to walk into and the ornate decoration is unlike anything the pupils have seen before....

As the lead artist on the Easter Course I’m getting really excited as we will be working in partnership with International Puppet Artist and Physical Theatre Performer, Rebekha Caputo. The course will involve a ballet class every morning and a variety of creative workshops in dance, physical theatre and shadow puppetry. We will be creating a dance performance with shadow puppetry as our set to perform to family and friends at the end of the week. It will be a jam packed week, full of chances...

Dancers Antoinette Brooks-Daw and Jeremy Curnier have been having some fun at Headingley Stadium today to celebrate world champions Leeds Rhinos supporting our Sponsor a Dancer campaign. Leeds Rhinos and England star Ryan Hall, man of the match in Leeds Rhino’s recent World Club Championship victory, met Antoinette and Jeremy to learn some ballet steps. It turned out that Ryan was a natural when it comes to doing lifts and soon he was not only holding up the World Club Championship trophy but...
