Dance Education Officer

Peter Pan Travels East

Press release date
Fri 9 Jul 2010

Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT) has taken one its most-loved productions to the Far East. The Company will be performing Peter Pan at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from 9 – 11 July and at the Cultural Centre Macau on 16 and 17 July (2010).

Peter Pan is a production which fascinates children and adults alike, with its tale of Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys and of course Captain Hook. NBT’s production includes all the exciting elements of this enchanting story along with death defying feats of flying, magical puppets, pirates, fairy dust and crocodiles.

As the Company prepares for its opening night, members of NBT’s Learning Department have also made their way to Hong Kong to deliver a unique dance project for the British Council.

The project explores the benefits of dance and movement for the learning-disabled, and involves working with local dance artists, carers and social workers and adults with learning disabilities to develop the skills of the dance artists and enable them to deliver similar integrated dance projects within their own communities.

Dance Education Officer Caroline Burn and Project Manager Jo Dean are joined by musician Bill Laurance and dance artist Dylan Quinn to deliver the four-day project at the Providence Garden for Rehab centre in the north of Hong Kong.

NBT has a long and distinguished record for successful overseas touring and the importance of this work to showcase its productions and dancers on the world stage. NBT is a proud cultural ambassador for Yorkshire and the UK. The Company will tour overseas again in the new year with performances in Bangkok and Beijing.
