Go Behind the Scenes for a Day
Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre throw open the doors of their multi award-winning powerhouse for dance on Saturday 12 May for a day of free events. Suitable for all ages and interests, visitors will be able to go behind the scenes of two popular dance companies and join in with the wide range of activities on offer.
There will be performances from both companies, dance physiotherapy consultations and a range of all-age, all-ability taster dance classes. There will be retellings of Northern Ballet’s well known productions like The Nutcracker, Beauty & the Beast and Peter Pan alongside craft activities and music sessions running throughout the day.
This is the second Open Day hosted by the companies, who launched their new building in June 2011. The previous Open Day attracted over 2,000 visitors from around the region.
All events and activities are free but booking is essential due to the popularity of the event. Visit northernballet.com/openhouse2012 for more information and to book places or call 0113 220 8008.

Notes to Editors
Northern Ballet is one of the UK’s five large ballet companies. Based in Leeds it performs throughout the UK as well as overseas. Northern Ballet’s productions mix classical dance and theatre, embracing popular culture and taking inspiration from literature, opera, or giving a unique interpretation of popular classical ballets.
In October 2010 Northern Ballet moved into its new home, a powerhouse for dance in the centre of Leeds. This new, purpose-built dance centre, which the Company shares with Phoenix Dance Theatre, is the largest centre for dance outside London and the first to house a professional classical company alongside with professional contemporary company.
