1984 Live rehearsals

60 seconds with... Christopher Hinton-Lewis

In a nutshell describe your job and how you got into it

I’m currently Guest Ballet Master. After returning back from New Zealand [Royal New Zealand Ballet], David [Nixon] offered me some work whilst Dan [Daniel de Andrade] was away completing his Clore Dance Fellowship.

Where can you be found when you’re not at Northern Ballet?

Pounding the streets of Leeds or at Wing Chun [Northern Wing Chun Kung Fu Association] in Armley.

Which is your favourite Northern Ballet production and why?

There isn’t one, as they all have different sentimental feelings and emotions attached to them.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Owen Wilson

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Not the best advice but I did have people say that I wouldn’t make it which is all the motivation I need.

What song will always get you dancing?

I don’t really have one but I will happily make a fool of myself to I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers.

What scares you?

Not doing something I enjoy for a living.

What would be your Mastermind specialist subject?

Probably Bernard Cornwell novels. I’ve read all of his books and still have them stored at my parents’ house.

What do you want to do before you die?

Everything. Why not, you never know what’s around the corner.

It's your dream dinner party, which five people (dead or alive) would you invite?

  • Yip Man
  • Sir Steve Regrave
  • Napoleon
  • Lincoln (I’ve just read a book on his life)
  • Dawn French

Describe yourself in three words?

Clumsy, honest and hard-working.
