It's never too early to think about Christmas, especially when it comes to finding a gift for that hard-to-please person in your life.
Why not surprise your loved ones with a unique present from Northern Ballet? Friends Membership offers fantastic opportunities to get closer to the Company including invitations to special behind-the-scenes events both on tour and at our landmark building in the heart of Leeds, and copies of inside, Northern Ballet's bi-annual magazine for supporters.
Since the dancers have been on tour for the past month yesterday was their first time in our new home. All day long they were popping through offices, trying out the studios and telling us what they thought.
Here's just a few of their thoughts on the new building...
Northern Ballet gave the inaugural performance at Aylesbury’s new Waterside Theatre on 12 October, performing Swan Lake to a full and star-studded auditorium.
The glitterati were out in force to greet a cheering crowd outside. The many household names included Tony Christie who sang his hit “Is this the way to Amarillo”, Ruby Wax, David Suchet, Simon Callow, Richard O’Brien, Suzanne Shaw, Warwick Davis, and Cilla Black, who officially opened the theatre.
Northern Ballet Academy students Jenny Layton and Paul Smith were dancing in the aisles at the new Waitrose store in Meanwood this week, in celebration of the supermarket’s support of training for our budding ballet dancers.
It has been a very strange week for Northern Ballet Academy. With the Company only moving into the building last Monday we made the decision to move the Academy across a week later so that staff could fully get to grips with the building before more than 200 academy students came through the doors.
I have spent my week going back and forth from Quarry Hill in the daytime to West Park in the evenings and it really has made me realise quite how lucky the Academy is.
The first week has been very exciting, learning our way around the building and making use of the terrific facilities it has to offer. By the time the Northern Ballet dancers return from their national tour on 18 October we will have settled in nicely and be ready to welcome them with open arms to their new home.
