I Got Rhythm

At the end of the 2012 Spring tour Northern Ballet brought back David Nixon's I Got Rhythm, a celebration of Gershwin in Song and Dance. This video features excerpts from the title song performed by Northern Ballet dancers Ben Mitchell and Kevin Poeung. A wonderful, exuberent and uplifting piece the dances bring to life the simple joys anyone can find through dance.

Robert was born in Jamaica and studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Whilst a student his prizes and awards included the Tom Hammond Opera Prize, the Vice Principal’s Award for Excellence, the Kiwanis International Music Festival Silver Tray, the ABRSM International Scholarship, the Oratorio Prize and the Major Van Someren-Godfery Prize for English Song.

David Nixon, OBE
David Nixon has been Artistic Director of Northern Ballet since 2001. David trained as a dancer, first in his hometown of Chatham, Ontario and then at the National Ballet School of Canada where his training began in earnest. It was during his time there that he first became interested in choreography, helping to revive a choreographic workshop with the approval of school director Betty Oliphant. After further training in Europe he returned to Canada to train with Erik Bruhn and the great Russian teacher, Eugene Valukin.
