START Hospices Programme at Northern Ballet supported by The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts
Northern Ballet has been running a project in partnership with Martin House Children's Hospice in Wetherby. The project has given young people with progressive life-limiting illnesses, and their families, the opportunity to experience and take part in high quality arts activities which they may not usually have access to.
Families have taken part in dance and photography workshops, where they had fun together as a family away from the demands of their daily lives. They have also attended performances of Northern Ballet productions Three Little Pigs and Cinderella. This exhibition captures moments of the families' experiences during the project, as they spent time together and tried new things. The exhibition has been created using images taken by both a professional photographer and the families themselves. The pieces were composed by the families to express how they felt during the project.
‘It's been quite perfect really. Quite often I can't take her to places because she can't join in but she's been able to take part in everything. It's been brilliant.’
