Everyone can dance at Northern Ballet

Published on

From 1 September a range of dance classes and courses for people of all ages and ability levels will be available at the Academy of Northern Ballet. The timetable for the new term includes weekly classes in ballet, jazz and creative movement held at Northern Ballet’s state-of-the-art studios in Leeds city centre. The Academy welcomes keen dancers from the age of 18 months and up, with no upper age limit, and no previous dance experience necessary. A full timetable of classes is available online at northernballet.com/classes.

All classes at the Academy of Northern Ballet are led by expert teachers of whom many are ex-professional dancers and the classes take place in the same studios used daily by Northern Ballet’s professional Company dancers.

The Academy of Northern Ballet offers classes for children aged from 18 months to 8 years and include Mini Movers, Moving Minis, Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet (ages 6 – 8). Classes for young people are available for ages 8 – 16 and include Ballet, Jazz and Creative Movement as well as a ‘Boys Only!’ ballet class for 8 – 12 year olds.

Believing it is never too late to learn to dance; the Academy of Northern Ballet’s adult classes include Adult Ballet, Adult Ballet Fusion, Adult Ballet Course and Dancing for the Over 55s in a range of ability levels from Beginner to Advanced. Conducted in an encouraging, social environment and attracting dancers of all ages, adult classes are a great way to keep fit, improve posture and flexibility and have fun with like-minded people.

All adult classes (except the Adult Ballet Course) run on a drop-in basis and participants with a Northern Ballet Dance Card (available from the Academy) will receive two extra free classes when booking 10 and also receive a 10% discount at the Northern Ballet Café Bar.

Northern Ballet also offers accessible dance programmes including the ability course for adults with mild to moderate learning difficulties and in motion for 8 – 19 year old self-propelling wheelchair users.

All classes are held at Northern Ballet’s purpose-built facility in Quarry Hill, Leeds which houses seven bright state-of-the-art dance studios, changing facilities and in-house physiotherapy services.
