Northern Ballet Academy are starting a number of new classes for adults in September. We will be continuing to run our ever popular adult ballet classes for all levels but will also be introducing Pilates and a brand new concept ‘Ballet Fusion’.
Ballet Fusion will be a fitness class based around ballet technique and basic principles of proper posture and core stability whilst getting your heart pumping. It has been designed to improve the students flexibility and over all fitness in a friendly atmosphere.
The Northern Ballet Company dancers follow an exercise programme that has been designed specially by company Ballet Mistress Yoko Ichino. Within the dancers’ daily routine there are a number of simple exercises that they do to help proper alignment, release tension and build strength – these exercises will be incorporated into the Ballet Fusion class allowing students to experience the benefit of these exercises (don’t worry though, these are exercises that everyone can do – you do not need to be a professional dancer!).
The class will be taught by Academy tutor and ex-Company dancer Natalie Russell.
Natalie trained with Yoko as a student at Ballet Met in Columbus and then went on to dance with Northern Ballet for many years. Some of you may recognise her as the face on the posters of Northern Ballet productions A Midsummer Nights Dream and Dangerous Liaisons (2004 season).
Natalie is really excited about the class and gave us more of an insight into Ballet Fusion – ‘The class will be divided into three sections, warm up including barre work, an aerobic section to keep the heart pumping, and a stretching and strengthening section. Dancing is such a great way to keep fit because you burn so much energy – often without even realising it and you have fun at the same time!’
