On a wet Tuesday morning last week I started my internship with Northern Ballet’s Communications team. After a very warm welcome the team sent me to Manchester to see the latest production of Madame Butterfly.

This resource pack is designed to give teachers an insight into Northern Ballet's production of Madame Butterfly, and toprovide practical ideas and tasks that can be used in the classroom. It is particularly suitable for teachers working with pupils in dance and drama. It also provides some signposts for links with other areas of the curriculum.
Madame Butterfly has been in Northern Ballet's repertoire since 2002 and has been toured internationally - as far afield as Beijing.

As promised here are the Madame Butterfly photos of our tour to Beijing. We started our tour with 3 performances of Romeo & Juliet. Toby Batley performed Romeo and Hannah Bateman performed Juliet on the opening night at the Opera House in Beijing and both were absolutely outstanding.
ACT I A Samurai, the father of Butterfly, has been disgraced. In the last moments before he commits Hari Kari he sells his daughter to the marriage broker, Goro. Butterfly enters the world of Geisha with her only possession, her father's sword, and dresses in her new kimono.
