Dance Education Officer

We are looking for a passionate, inspiring and creative Dance Education Officer to work in our exemplary Learning Team. Representing a high quality ballet company, you will deliver creative dance workshops and classes in Leeds, Yorkshire and across the UK. This role is integral to delivering our varied engagement programmes and involves working with children, young people and adults with and without additional needs in schools, theatres and community settings, making the work of Northern Ballet accessible to all.

Last year, the Learning team delivered approximately 2,300 sessions to an estimated 50,000 people, across a broad range of activity to engage and inspire people about dance. The work is fast-paced and varied, with regular travel and shifting working hours. You will be supported by a professional team of experienced managers and artists. To be able to hit the ground running and represent the company, you will be a lively and dynamic team player with a desire to share your love of dance.

Salary £18,000 – £20,000 P/A

Interviews and teaching observation will take place in Leeds on Wednesday 9 September.

Technical Theatre Apprentice

Northern Ballet is a touring ballet company based in Leeds.  We have been creating full length ballets for over 40 years and we bring inspiring inventive and moving performances to audiences who might otherwise not have access to world class dance.

The Technical Department's work spans across all back stage disciplines, designing and delivering all aspects of sound, lighting, set, costume and stage management. The Technical Team tour with the company 26 weeks of the year, create and work at our stores in Bramley and also facilitate productions in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre. 

The apprentice will work within the Technical manager at our Quarry Hill venue the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.

The apprentice will support the work of the technical manager in the Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre by;   

  • Assisting with getting in, building, striking and getting out all scenery, sound, lighting and other equipment within the theatres, performances, venues, events and storage facilities.
  • Learn the principles of Manual Handling techniques.
  • Assist with efficiently setting up and operating all technical equipment used in running shows such as; lighting and sound desks, AV equipment and other show effects.
  • Rig and focus lamps.
  • Undertake regular maintenance under the guidance/instruction of the Technical Director/Manager.
  • Assist with all technical requirements across the Quarry Hill site; theatre, studios, meeting rooms and atrium.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety legislation and code of practice.
  • Work across all technical departments within the company and eventually expand experience across into our touring shows.
  • Under the guidance /instruction of the technical director/manager carry out and understand Risk Assessments.
  • Work safely at heights using various items of access equipment.
  • At all times carry out duties and responsibilities with regard to Northern Ballet's Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Child Protection Policies.

Work Experience at Northern Ballet

Work experience could inspire you to pursue a career in the arts.   At Northern Ballet we aspire to offer this opportunity to more young people across Leeds and Yorkshire.

Work experience is for young people of school age (usually in Years 9, 10 and 11) and can take place at any time in the academic year.

It provides you with an opportunity to spend a week at Northern Ballet gaining a broad experience of working in an arts organisation.

The focus of the experience is on the non-performance areas of the company and during the week you will spend time in different departments including; Technical, Communications, Development, Wardrobe, Learning and the Academy.

We are looking for young people who are enthusiastic about the arts and want to learn more about working behind the scenes at a cultural organisation.
