Arts Council England's Creative Case for Diversity

Last week Arts Council England outlined its Creative Case for Diversity.

In his launch speech the Chair of Arts Council England, Sir Peter Bazalgette (Baz), placed responsibility on every funded organisation to make their programme of work more reflective of the communities they serve.

On Sunday 14 December the performance of Peter Pan will be very special and tinged with sadness. It will be the farewell performance of a dancer who has performed with Northern Ballet for over twenty-one years, Mr Darren Goldsmith.

Stars of stage and screen turned out in style to walk the red carpet on Tuesday night for the opening night of Cinderella at the Manchester Palace Theatre.

Sue Johnston, who has most recently been seen making trouble as Miss Denker in series five of Downton Abbey, spoke to us in the interval and said, ‘The choreography is stunning…it was just blissful’.

Supporters receive Royal Medal

This week I attended the ceremony at St. James’s Palace where I am delighted that Liz and Terry Bramall were awarded The Prince of Wales Medal for Arts Philanthropy. This award, which has been presented annually since 2008 by HRH The Prince of Wales, celebrates individuals who support the arts in its widest forms. This year, the awards recognise the exceptional support of those philanthropists for the Arts.

I was lucky enough to attend the Action for Children’s Arts (ACA) Awards 2014 yesterday with Northern Ballet’s Director of Learning Selina McGonagle, to accept the Outstanding Contribution Award to Children’s Arts on behalf of Northern Ballet. The ceremony was held in the fantastic BBC Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House in London and we felt really honoured to be part of what was a really special afternoon.

We were delighted to be nominated for Best Company at the Taglioni International Ballet Awards and even more delighted to win when the recipients of the awards were announced back in September 2014. Now we've got even more to celebrate after scooping even more awards and nominations!

First our Head of Stage, Sid Taylor, won the award for Oustanding Achievement in Stage Crew at the Technical Theatre Awards.
