As one man risks everything to fall in love, join Northern Ballet for the World Première of Jonathan Watkins’ 1984. Recently awarded Best Company at the European Taglioni Ballet Awards, Northern Ballet is bringing this cult-classic to life with the World Première just 10 days away at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds from 5 – 12 September 2015. This thought-provoking tale of love and betrayal will also tour nationally in autumn 2015 and spring 2016.
David Nixon OBE introduces the Company and is followed by Jonathan Watkins who gives insight into the creation of the ballet 1984. Jonathan then rehearses a group scene and shows a Pas De Deux with Martha Leebolt and Tobias Batley.

1. David Bowie planned to write a musical based on 1984 but George Orwell’s widow denied him the rights for the production. Songs from his album Diamond Dogs were inspired by the novel.
Northern Ballet has released details of its autumn 2015 season which includes two World Premières and will see the Company give 115 performances across 12 UK venues, maintaining its extensive reach as the widest touring ballet company in the UK. Northern Ballet, who recently won Best Company at the Taglioni European Ballet Awards, will commence its season with the World Première of Jonathan Watkins’ 1984.
