Pointe shoes and architecture were the story of the day yesterday when I took Gavin McCaig and Alice Bayston to the majestic Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland for a photo shoot celebrating our imminent tour to nearby Newcastle with Cinderella and our partnership with the National Trust.
Tell us something about your home town.
Motherwell is noted as the 'Steel Capital of Scotland' and exported steel worldwide as well as supplying most of the UK. My dad worked there but it's shut now.
What keeps you motivated?
The desire to grow as an artist and as a person. Also, on a rainy day...a good caramel macchiato!
Gavin is from Motherwell and moved to Glasgow at the age of 12 to take up a vocational place at The Dance School of Scotland. Four years later he received a scholarship to study at English National Ballet School, also working part-time with the Dance School at the Royal Academy of Dance. During his graduate year Gavin undertook a placement with Scottish Ballet performing Christopher Hampson's Hansel & Gretel.
