The Nutcracker

Hello and welcome to my latest blog. This time I have a collection from two of our recent ballets, Swan Lake, which we performed in Bradford, Woking and Aylesbury; and The Nutcracker which we performed in Nottingham, Sheffield, Norwich, Manchester and Leeds. Though an injury to my knee prevented me from doing all of The Nutcracker performances, I was able to pick up my camera a little more and get some shots from the side of stage.
As the Edwards family prepare for their Christmas party, Clara imagines the wonderful things that might happen. Her brother Frederick can’t miss a moment to tease her and is only stopped by the arrival of their beautiful older sister Louise.
Rachael Gillespie, Michaela Griffin, Josh Barwick and Matthew Broadbent made a flying visit to The Rock shopping centre in Bury, near Manchester, to take part in the unveiling of their Christmas lights before travelling to Manchester to perform in The Nutcracker at the Palace Theatre.

Filmed in 2010 this video shows short excerpts from David Nixon's The Nutcracker where The Nutcracker Prince does battle with The Mouse King. Music is performed by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

Born in Kamsko-Votkinsk on 7 May 1840, Tchaikovsky was the second eldest of six children. In 1850 he began attending the St. Petersburg School of Jurisprudence, becoming a clerk in the Ministry of Justice in 1859. He studied with Nicolai Zaremba until the opening of the new St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1862. In 1863 he left his job at the Ministry of Justice to study full time at the Conservatory.
