Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Leicestershire and grew up in a little village called Ibstock.

Where did you do your dance training?

In Ibstock I went to a local school named Tindles during which time I was also one of the first students on the Northern Ballet Associates programme which started in 1998.

When did you join Northern Ballet?

2003. I was also fortunate enough to work with the Company in 2002 in Wuthering Heights which was an amazing opportunity.

What made you want to be a dancer?

I have always enjoyed performing on stage whether acting in Annie and Sound of Music or dancing in regional and national competitions. Through the fun and hard work I knew it was always something I wanted to do as a career.

What would be your dream role to dance and why?

I have always wanted to perform Cathy in Wuthering Heights. She’s such a strong complex character who gives everything she has and has such a feisty personality. To dance alongside such a wonderful score would be amazing!

If you could adapt one work into a ballet what would it be?

I couldn’t say one scenario/story. I have always found The Crucible an interesting plot. Even though it would be hard and a little ‘taboo’ in theatre. Macbeth would be great too. I just love the darker and more dramatic stories for dance.

Who are your artistic influences or heroes?

Well I have always loved the athleticism of Deborah Bull. The drama of Moira Shearer (also because she’s a fellow red head!) Oh and of course the performance and style of Bernadette Peters – she’s a legend!

Describe your perfect Sunday morning...

Making an elaborate breakfast, either eggs and bacon or maybe even pancakes from scratch, chilling out with my husband on the sofa then maybe an afternoon nap after a Bond film and then cooking a nice beef joint or roast chicken for tea – divine!

What was the first album you bought and what was the last album you bought?

My first album was a tape – that’s showing my age! I think it was Kylie’s I Should Be So Lucky. My last was on iTunes and it was the music from the TV show Smash. Awesome!

What would be your luxury item on a desert island?

My husband - he’s luxury!

What are you favourite places in Yorkshire?

The Cow and Calf in Ilkley where my husband and I got married. Brontë falls are really picturesque. Anywhere that there’s a gorgeous Yorkshire hillside view – I love the outdoors!
