Making a film - inspiration

This week in Ability we began to create work in our first location on level 3 of the building.

We thought about expected and unexpected actions that might happen there, and used these to help create movement in and around the sofa area. We filmed sequences from different angles and looked through the footage to decide what we thought looked best.

1. Our ballet is inspired by the 1806 Brothers Grimm story. The tale has been adapted many times, including a version by The Muppets featuring Kermit The Frog as the shoemaker, who’s saved by a group of entertainers (The Elvises) who, naturally, make only blue suede shoes.

Academy of Northern Ballet student Grace Whitaker, reviews our 45th Anniversary Sapphire Gala...

On the 14 of March, students from the Centre for Advanced Training programme levels 3-6 watched Northern Ballet’s 45th anniversary Sapphire Gala at Leeds Grand Theatre. The dress code was black tie so, as expected, we wore our finest dresses and suits for the occasion. Once we had found our seats and taken countless selfies, the performance was ready to start.

1. Now considered a classic, Emily Brontë had to pay the substantial sum of 50 pounds to have Wuthering Heights published following constant rejection from publishers.  The book didn’t receive any acclaim in her lifetime and she died believing it to be a failure.
