My name is Rose Chadwick and I have recently started my post as Dance Education Officer as maternity cover for Sophie Alder.
I've been fortunate enough to have worked with Northern Ballet's Learning team as a freelance dance artist for a number of years and I’m really excited about working with the team and the Company full-time.
Whilst joining the company on tour in Newcastle this week, I met the very friendly and helpful Kirsten Dixon, Stage Door Keeper at the Theatre Royal. Kirsten was kind enough to talk to me about her role and what it is like working in the theatre.
I have been set the mission to give you all a behind the scenes glimpse into life on tour with Northern Ballet and as our Autumn season now starts its tour of the UK, Newcastle was the first destination on the tour.
We are taking A Midsummer Night's Dream to Newcastle Theatre Royal from Tue 17 - Sat 21 Sep. I have never really been to Newcastle before so was looking forward to seeing a new city.
As a recently graduated student with a highly useful but extremely non-vocational degree in History I have found myself in that limbo stage of attempting to sample every avenue the world of work has to offer. It is to this end that I find myself enjoying an interesting and enlightening week of work experience with the fundraising team at Northern Ballet.
Similar to people, ballet companies have their own personality. This year as I did a tour of auditions, I discovered Northern Ballet was someone I wanted to get to know. I was drawn to their honest approach; the way they took enough time to really learn about my abilities, and also introduce me the breadth of the Company.
