The Dance Science Project

Over the past 3 years Northern Ballet Academy has been taking part in a Dance Science Research Project which has been looking at the development of dance talent in young people.

Along with the other seven Centres for Advanced Training in Dance across the country our professional division students were monitored and interviewed over a three year period.

The researchers from Trinity Laban Dance Science Department in London monitored the students' aerobic fitness, flexibility, upper body strength, jump height as well as many other physical elements - visiting the students between 2-3 times a year. They also investigated the students' attitudes to their dancing including aspects such as what kept them driven, what excited them about dance and how passionate they were about dance.

The findings from this project will be launched at a Symposium held at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance on Thursday 27 October 2011. On the day there will be a daytime symposium with presentations on the different aspects of the research and in the evening there will be a drinks reception, speeches and a short performances by students from the eight Centres for Advanced Training - Northern Ballet Academy included.
