Quack quack! Hello there.... What an amazing few weeks it has been, with performances of Ugly Duckling in Yeadon, Hunslet, Chapeltown and at Northern Ballet, taking place to sell-out audiences.
My friend Ugly was phenomenal in her first ever ballet and all the children who saw her agreed that she danced very well indeed. In total over 4000 people watched the ballet and here are just a few of the things people have said about it...
"I loved it! It was the first ballet I have been to and I really enjoyed it."
"It was fantastic and just the right length and a great way to get children interested in dancing."
"Graceful, elegant and beautiful. My favourite part was when the ducklings were throwing the egg about"
Eleanor, aged 8
"My three year old was captivated throughout."
"It was fantastic... I liked the swans' costumes and the cats weaving round the Ugly Duckling."
"I loved it! My mum loved it too. It made us feel happy."
Martha, aged 4
Ugly and the other dancers are having a well-earned rest now after all those performances but the people at Northern Ballet are busy organising for the ballet to go on tour in the Spring to small theatres across the North of England – from Barrow in Furness in the West to Hull in the East and lots of places in between. Details of the tour are on the website now!
My favourite bit of the ballet was when the Ugly Duckling made friends with the frogs and tried to leap like them. I’ve got a few froggy friends down at the duck pond and they are funny creatures, jumping here and there in the flash of an eye. I also really enjoyed listening to the music during the ballet.
If you didn’t get to see Ugly Duckling this time around make sure you book your tickets to see it on tour as it is a great show. And if you have seen it already, Northern Ballet would like to hear what you thought of it, and what other stories you think they should make into a ballet next year.
Right, I’m off to fluff up my feathers now that the weather is turning chilly. Speak to you again soon!
