Last dance of the term...
Last Friday was the last day of term on our Ability course for adults with learning disabilities. The course is a new venture for Northern Ballet and has got off to a great start.
The course runs every Friday during term time and offers participants the chance to develop dance skills and create and perform dance pieces. We’ve seen great progress in our participants’ posture, articulation and movement memory and we have created an excellent solo that will be performed next March at an event we are holding at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.
Over the last 6 months, accompanied by Leanne or Rose, I have delivered numerous free taster dance workshops for adults with learning disabilities interested in finding out more about our Ability course. These have taken me to various venues around Leeds and as far afield as Barnsley FC where we met the team’s mascot and a Keith Lemon lookalike!

Needless to say we’ve had some interesting moments and met lots of enthusiastic, welcoming and supportive people along the way.
The new term starts on Friday 11 January when we hope to welcome new faces to the course and continue to build on this term’s achievements. We’ll also be scheduling in some more free taster sessions so if you or someone you know is interested in joining in watch our page on the website for more details or contact me at sophie.alder@northernballet.com
