Northern Ballet company auditions

Northern Ballet presents The Ultimate Form at Tate St Ives

Press release date
Wed 5 Feb 2014

Northern Ballet performed The Ultimate Form at Tate St Ives on 8 February in the next stage of development following a unique collaboration between Linder and Northern Ballet Premier Dancer and upcoming choreographer Kenneth Tindall. The performance, which is inspired by the work of artist Barbara Hepworth, will see Northern Ballet dancers performing in Cornwall for the first time.

The Ultimate Form premiéred at Paris’ Museum of Modern Art in early 2013 followed by performances at The Hepworth Wakefield in May 2013 and the John Lewis flagship store on London’s Oxford Street in September 2013. The piece is based on Barbara Hepworth’s sculptural work, The Family Man 1970, and features costumes designed by Richard Nicoll with a score by Stuart McCallum of The Cinematic Orchestra.

The piece was choreographed by Northern Ballet Premier Dancer Kenneth Tindall in collaboration with internationally celebrated artist Linder, whose work combines fine art, fashion, music and dance in the production of collages, performances and installation. Tindall’s previous choreographic works for Northern Ballet include Project #1 and Luminous Junc·ture, which can be seen at the Linbury Studio Theatre from 8-10 May as part of Northern Ballet’s Mixed Programme. Northern Ballet will also perform a new Kenneth Tindall piece during their Mixed Programme at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds, from 18-21 June.

Kenneth Tindall said: “It’s an honour to have the opportunity to work with such a creative organisation as Tate St Ives and go back to where Barbara Hepworth created so much of her work. It seems like the rightful home for The Ultimate Form”.

Kenneth Tindall and Linder hosted a Performing Art Workshop on 7 February with the performance of The Ultimate Form on 8 February at the St Ives Theatre.
