The 2011-12 Academy season comes to a close
Saturday 7 July saw the final day of term for all Academy students - and what a day it was!
325 students took part in 3 different Academy performances showcasing students from Pre-Ballet all the way up to our oldest professional training programme students.
It was fantastic to have all the students performing together and even though it felt pretty hectic at times the students remained calm and put on a really good show for their friends and families.
It was quite an emotional day as we have 19 students graduating from the Academy this year. Our students have been accepted to some of the top vocational schools both in the UK and abroad including English National Ballet School, Elmhurst School of Ballet, Canada’s National Ballet School, Laine Theatre Arts, Urdang Academy, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and Northern School of Contemporary Dance- to name but a few.
Many of our graduating students have been with us for 5 or 6 years and feel very much like part of the furniture here at Northern Ballet. It’s so exciting to see them getting into their dream schools and beginning the next chapter of their training but sad for Academy staff as we are going to miss them so much. Hopefully some of them will return to dance with the company in years to come- as Matthew Topliss will be doing when he joins the company as an apprentice later this month.
I will keep you posted on how they are all getting on!
