Darragh is from Johannesburg, South Africa and trained at the June Melville School of Dance and Joburg Ballet before joining the Academy of Northern Ballet's Professional Graduate Programme. She joined Northern Ballet in 2016 and left in June 2018.

Where were you born and raised?

Johannesburg, South Africa.

At what age did you start dancing?

I started dancing at the age of four.

Where did you train?

I trained in South Africa with teachers Vanessa Eborall, Dorothy de Witt and June Melville as well as with Joburg Ballet. I then moved to Leeds to join the Academy of Northern Ballet's Professional Graduate Programme.

Which Northern Ballet roles would you most like to perform?

It's hard because Northern Ballet has many exciting roles that I would love to dance but if I had to chose them I would love to perform in The Great Gatsby or Romeo and Juliet.

Career/training highlights

Getting a contract with Northern Ballet, because it has always been my dream to work as a professional ballet dancer in the UK.

What do you like most about being a dancer?

What I like most about being a dancer is the control you have over your dancing, the improvement you see is an outcome of the work you put in and I find that extremely satisfying.

What is your favourite book?

When a Crocodile Eats the Sun by Peter Godwin.

What is your favourite post-show meal?

I'm a very bad cook so something easy and quick to make.

How do you like to relax?

I love to relax by surrounding myself with family and friends or just catching up on a TV series.

If you weren't a dancer what would you be?

A forensic psychologist.
