Joshua is from Leeds where he trained as a Northern Ballet Academy Associate. He went on to train at Elmhurst School for Dance. Joshua joined Northern Ballet in 2010. Joshua left in 2013 and has since danced with New English Ballet Theatre and Rambert.

Career highlights

Performing A Christmas Carol with Northern Ballet on tour while in the 3rd year of school; joining Northern Ballet; Dancing in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s 20 Years in Birmingham gala.

What made you want to be a dancer?

I have always had a passion for music and dance so I think it has always been on my mind. However when I watched my first Northern Ballet rehearsal that was definitely the point when I knew – this is for me!

What would be your dream role to dance and why?

Romeo in Romeo & Juliet. It’s one of my favourite ballets; it’s such a dramatic and emotional story. I would love to try and portray it.

Who are your artistic influences or heroes?

Darcey Bussell and Jonathan Cope.

If you could adapt one work into a ballet what would it be?

Desperate Housewives!

Describe your perfect Sunday morning

I like to get up and spend the morning with my family and then go for a nice walk with my dog.

What was the first album you bought and what was the last album you bought?

First was Steps and the last one was Adele

What would be your luxury item on a desert island?

Hand Sanitiser!

What are your favourite places in Yorkshire?

Horsforth, it’s where I grew up and is a nice place. Golden Acre park – I spent a lot of time there as a young child. Betty’s Tea Room – A good cup of tea.
