This August, 33 young people joined us for four days of fun on our Summer Course. This annual course is an opportunity for young people aged 7-11 to develop their ballet technique and creativity. Our dance artists work alongside a collaborative artist to introduce participants to something different and to develop new skills.

My name is Ebony and I am the Dance Education Apprentice at Northern Ballet. I have been in my role for nearly a year now, and as the apprentice I have been observing, supporting and co-delivering workshops with the Dance Education Officers, which will help guide me towards my goal of becoming a dance teacher.

As a Dance Education Officer, I spend a lot of my time teaching dance workshops in schools, however this term I’ve been doing something a little different. Together with artists from Opera North, I’ve been going into Manor House Care Home in New Farnley every Friday afternoon to do some seated ballet and singing.

The stage is set, the lights are up and our company dancers are busy performing Goldilocks & the Three Bears across the country as part of our Short Ballets for Small People tour. But before the dancers arrive at the venues, our Dance Education Officers visit each town to engage local children with the story and develop audiences.
