Hello. My name is Lauren and I am a ballet-aholic.
To be honest, the whole thing snuck up on me. I never expected that in December 2009, when I innocently decided to take my Mum and Sister to see Northern Ballet's Peter Pan as an alternative to panto, it would light a spark within me that now even all the water in the English Channel would struggle to extinguish.

If you love fashion, our forthcoming production of Cleopatra is a real treat and as we are opening at Leeds Grand Theatre this Thursday, I thought I would give you a fashion fix with the beautiful costume design sketches.

What happens to our beautiful sets when they are not on tour I hear you ask, well Northern Ballet have a dedicated workshop and storage building known as Bramley, in West Leeds, where all our sets live. Andy Waddington, our Techincal Director, kindly let me sneak my camera in to have a look at our Cinderella set up close.

Northern Ballet are one of a very few number of dance companies in England to regularly offer audio described performances of their productions for the visually impaired. Audio description of live performances, like the audio description service on television, describes the action using descriptive rather than technical language, for those who cannot see it.
Depending on the repertoire for the season, Northern Ballet use approximately 2,200 pairs of pointe shoes each year. Using the average size pointe shoe, if you were to line them up, toe to heel, it would be well over half a mile!
