The long road to China – Sunday 12 January 2014

Published on Sunday 12 January, 2014

Yesterday, the Technicians set off for China and are now installed in the company hotel for the next few days - the Days Inn and Suites in Mingfa, Xiamen. Before this tour was set up most of us had never heard of Xiamen and it is even more surprising that KLM run direct flights there from Amsterdam 3 times a week which is where the rest of us now find ourselves with a three hour wait until we continue our journey. Fortunately, Schipol Airport is quite a pleasant place to relax for a couple of hours.

Xiamen is a major city on the south east coast of China with a population of 3.67M. It has recently been described as "China's most romantic city" We will spend three nights there with one performance of A Midsummer NIght's Dream on Wednesday 15 January at the Banlam Grand Theatre which is the largest theatre in Fujian province. We are told that this is the first time that a major western company has performed in the city so it will be interesting to see what they make of and if, in fact, there is an audience for our performance. 11 hour flight now to look forward to.
