When Ability Met Anjali Dance Company

Published on Wednesday 22 November, 2017

Ability, Northern Ballet’s course for adults with learning disabilities, has had a great start to the new academic year. We have welcomed three new members to the group, and in September we worked with choreographer Tanya Richam-Odoi to create and perform a fantastic piece as part of Light Night Leeds.

In November, Anjali Dance Company joined us for a day leading a workshop on Genius, their latest touring double bill. The workshop, led by Anjali’s Education Manager Rachel Liggitt, gave us an insight into Gary Clarke’s Beethoven, one of the pieces in Genius.

Following a thorough warm-up, we explored repertoire from Beethoven, creating our own versions of different sections of the piece. We discovered the intention behind some of the movements, found out about Beethoven’s life and had a brilliant day dancing together. We were also able to see the piece when Anjali performed Genius at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.

Thank you Anjali Dance Company!
