Artsmark Celebration Week

Published on Tuesday 10 October, 2017

This week is the first ever Artsmark Celebration Week, which shines a light on the importance of cultural education and fantastic schools putting arts and culture at the heart of young people’s education.

Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools and education settings, and Northern Ballet’s Learning team have been busy working with schools throughout Hull to support their Artsmark journey, enabling them to deliver a more creative curriculum.

In partnership with Hull City of Culture 2017, Northern Ballet dance artists worked with an incredible 3,000 children from 63 Hull-based primary schools, exploring colour and feelings through creative movement and dance.

We’ve also been working closely with IVE to deliver a series of training opportunities for teachers as part of Hull City of Culture’s No Limits Programme. These interactive and engaging sessions have drawn on Hull’s rich cultural history, inspiring local teachers to use dance as a learning tool across the curriculum.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Hull City Council’s Children and Families Service to deliver training opportunities for Early Years practitioners, focusing on creative movement play and a child-led approach to physical and cognitive development.

To build on some of this wonderful work, we are hosting a teachers' dance CPD Day on Tuesday 19 June 2018 in Leeds, open to both Artsmark and non-Artsmark schools. Teachers will learn warm up and movement games, develop confidence to plan and deliver high quality dance, improve their subject knowledge of dance in the curriculum and discover ways to explore topics through dance.

This CPD Day is priced at £80 full price / £20 for teachers from Artsmark schools (75% discount). For more information or to book, please contact Lauren Prydderch on 0113 220 8000 or email lauren.prydderch@northernballet.com
