Three world premières - one fantastic year
We are delighted to announce that we will be premièring three brand new ballets in 2017.
We will be kicking off the year with the world première of Kenneth Tindall’s Casanova at Leeds Grand Theatre from 11 – 18 March 2017. Casanova will tour to 8 venues across the UK until May 2017.
If that’s not enough, we are also adapting John Boyne’s bestselling novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, choreographed and directed by Northern Ballet Artistic Associate Daniel de Andrade. The ballet tells the story of an unlikely friendship between two young boys, which blossoms through the disturbing events of World War II. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas will be premièred at Cast in Doncaster from 25 – 27 May, before touring across the UK to 9 venues, including the West Yorkshire Playhouse, until October 2017.
Just in time for the festive season, our final new ballet of 2017 will be the much-loved Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Little Mermaid, choreographed by Artistic Director David Nixon OBE. This production will première at Southampton Mayflower Theatre from 21 – 23 September and will tour to 8 venues across the UK until December 2017, culminating in our annual Christmas run at Leeds Grand Theatre.
2017 is going to be a big year for Northern Ballet and you are sure to find a performance near you. We hope to see you at one of our new ballets – if not two or even all three!
