Joseph Poulton and Dale Rhodes were 2 of the original students we took onto our Professional training programme (CAT) in its pilot year in 2004. They both graduated from the Academy 2008.
This week they have been back in to visit us all and I managed to have a quick chat with them about their training and their time at Northern Ballet Academy.
For the past year I have looked forward to Thursday mornings. On a day to day basis Northern Ballet is a pretty special place to be and I do enjoy coming into work each day but Thursday mornings are extra special - it’s Mini’s Morning - and as I come through the doors I'm greeted by our youngest generation of Academy students.
When I was first approached about giving Miss England a masterclass to help her back into dancing shape for the Miss World contest I was a little concerned! What if she couldn't dance at all? Had two left feet?
Saturday 7 July saw the final day of term for all Academy students - and what a day it was!
325 students took part in 3 different Academy performances showcasing students from Pre-Ballet all the way up to our oldest professional training programme students.
Andrew Tomlinson is in Level 6 of the Professional Programme. Last summer he received a full scholarship to train with National Ballet School in Canada for 4 weeks. Andrew told us more about his experience.
One of our original Professional Programme students Courtney George has been awarded a scholarship to Laine Theatre Arts School just two days after her first audition. Last month she won the Young Dancer of the Year at The Dance Show in Birmingham. Well done Courtney! Your tireless enthusiasm, dedication and hard work have reaped the rewards you richly deserve.
Before Christmas we held a party for our Mini Movers and Moving Minis (classes for children aged 18months - 4years old).
We had loads of fun singing Christmas songs and playing in the bubble machine and then finished the morning off with mince pies and orange juice. Lani and Sharon (both aged 3) had a great time filming these short clips to tell you how they got on!
We have seen a huge improvement in our Minis this term - lots more confidence and rhythm! We can’t wait to see everyone again for the start of the spring term in January.
