Kelley has joined us for the second half of our spring season 2015 from Alberta Ballet to perform the role of Pinkerton as we tour Madame Butterfly with Perpetuum Mobile across England. Kelley is from Edmonton, Canada and is celebrating his 13th season with Alberta Ballet where he is a Principal Dancer and with whom he has danced many principal roles.

American naval officer, Pinkerton, and some friends are being entertained in a geisha house. He is bewitched by one particularly beautiful geisha and Goro the marriage broker points out that the young girl in question, Butterfly, can be purchased as a ‘bride’. Butterfly is little more than a child and believes this to be a serious marriage. She betrays her religion and adopts her husband’s Christian faith, committing herself to him forever.

The inspiration for the world famous musical Miss Saigon, the story of Madame Butterfly tells of the doomed love affair between an American Naval Lieutenant and his young Japanese bride, Butterfly. Madly in love and prepared to sacrifice everything, Butterfly’s world falls apart when she is abandoned and betrayed.
