Northern Ballet’s uniquely expressive dancers will perform two spectacular ballets in one evening. Be transported to Japan as the Company presents its much-loved and heartbreakingly tragic Madame Butterfly. The inspiration for the world famous musical Miss Saigon, the story of Madame Butterfly tells of the doomed love affair between an American Naval Lieutenant and his young Japanese bride, Butterfly. Madly in love and prepared to sacrifice everything, Butterfly’s world falls apart when she is abandoned and betrayed.
Following the announcement that Northern Ballet is to première an adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 by Jonathan Watkins in September 2015, the Leeds-based Company, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary year, has released details of its plans for spring 2015 with a season of iconic love stories giving 134 performances across 28 venues in the UK.
