Before any more performances could take place, theatres were closed followed quickly by the UK-wide lockdown in response to COVID-19 resulting in an immediate box office loss of over £1M for the spring season alone. We then launched our Pay as You Feel Digital Season to bring world-class ballet direct to people’s homes. The season launched on 27 March with a new dance film EGO by Kenneth Tindall and Dan Lowenstein (see pages 16 – 17 for more). Content ranged from full-length ballets to behind-the- scenes films and fun musical challenges. Highlights between April – July 2020 included Little Red Riding Hood, Dracula, 50 th Anniversary Celebration Gala Highlights and For An Instant. Distribution included TV, on demand channels and our own digital platforms. Those watching were asked, if they were able, to make a donation to help protect our people and our work during these unprecedented times. Running until July 2020, the season raised over £40,000 with views of our films reaching 850K across all platforms. 31Leeds Dance Partnership core partners are Northern Ballet, Yorkshire Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds Playhouse, Phoenix Dance Theatre and Leeds Beckett University. 2019/20 was a bumper year for Leeds Dance Partnership with fantastic projects from across the Leeds Dance sector. We’ve continued with our mission to support and celebrate dance in Leeds and beyond. Highlights of this year include • In July 2019 Phoenix Dance Theatre delivered their second Choreographers & Composers Lab bringing together four choreographers, four composers, 12 professional dancers and four musicians for a two-week intensive led by Phoenix Dance Theatre’s then Artistic Director Sharon Watson and Musical Director Alexander Campkin. • Family Encounters at Yorkshire Dance was programmed in association with Leeds Dance Partnership and we specifically supported four performances. Two of the international companies were able to perform in Yorkshire only because of the Partnership’s financial support. • Collide 2020 was bigger and better than ever before with all-male performances from professional and youth dance companies across different Leeds city centre locations. • Our Artist Fellowships culminated with a fantastic sharing of work which saw audiences from across the dance industry come together and discover more about what each artist had been working on. Their presentations included a short video, interactive silent disco and a short dance piece. • The BBC’s #DancePassion was a celebration of the UK’s flourishing dance scene in collaboration with One Dance UK. Leeds was the only livestream hub in the North of England, hosted by Northern School of Contemporary Dance and featured videos such as Dancing on My Own by Sara Lindstrom, commissioned by Yorkshire Dance. Performances from Leeds artists DAZL, RJC Dance, Möbius Dance, Akeim Toussaint Buck, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Kenneth Tindall / Northern Ballet, DeNada Dance Theatre and Gracefool Collective were livestreamed. • Light Night Leeds had over 60 events lighting up the city. We supported Alexander Whitely Dance Company’s Strange Stranger which had sold out performances at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre. 25 Opportunities to be involved Leeds Dance Partnership 10 Countries involved in performances 8 Partner Collaborations 70 Independent artists and companies engaged 6 New projects delivered 32Photos Zoe Martin and David Lindsay. 3334Javier Torres and Antoinette Brooks-Daw in Dracula.
