Let's Dance

Northern Ballet has been running a project in partnership with Martin House Children's Hospice in Boston Spa since 2012. The project gives young people with progressive life-limiting conditions, and their families, the opportunity to experience and take part in high quality arts activities which they may not usually have access to.

Families take part in dance and photography workshops where they can have fun together as a family away from the demands of their daily lives. They also attend performances of Northern Ballet productions with the support of staff, enabling them to access live performance.

This exhibition captures moments of the families' experiences during the project last year, as they spent time together and tried new things. The exhibition was created using images taken by both a professional photographer and the families themselves. The pieces were composed by the families to express how they felt during the project.

‘This project took us away from the often stressful demands of our daily routine.  Through each of our five wonderful days on the project each session was fully inclusive and adaptable to meet our needs and all cares for Olivia were met by the care team so that we could focus on spending time relaxing with our children.’

‘The memory of watching the show with our son is very special - I can’t think of anything as special that we have done. The memory making is so important because at times when he is ill, the memories are still there.’
