Northern Ballet takes Christmas to Bangkok
Northern Ballet heads to Bangkok this week with its stunning production of A Christmas Carol. The Company will be performing at the Thailand Cultural Centre on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September.
A sumptuous parcel of theatre, musical and ballet, A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge's transformation from mealy-mouthed skin-flint to the most famous champion of Christmas spirit. Lez Brotherston’s colourful sets and costumes conjure up a traditional Victorian Christmas, and are perfectly complemented by Carl Davis’ festive score.
Northern Ballet has a long and distinguished record for successful overseas touring. This year the Company has already staged performances in Hong Kong and Macau and will tour overseas again later this year with performances in Beijing.
Deborah Green, Chief Executive of Marketing Leeds which has sponsored the Company’s international touring in 2010, says: “We’re delighted to support Northern Ballet’s international touring season this year. Northern Ballet is a terrific cultural ambassador for Yorkshire and the UK. Culture provides a unique and positive arena in which to do business. Companies such as Northern Ballet offer a marvellous opportunity to bring people together and for them to find out about the exceptional cultural offer in Leeds.”
Northern Ballet’s tour to Bangkok is also being kindly sponsored by OOCL Freight Company which is providing invaluable support by shipping sets and costumes from Leeds to Bangkok and back.
