Gifted & Talented Primary School Project

Published on Wednesday 15 June, 2011

Gifted & talented primary school project in partnership with Artforms, Children’s services Leeds.

16 June will see 30 talented young dancers from six primary schools across Leeds will have their first experience at dancing in one of Northern Ballet’s first-class studios when they come together for a day of dance designed to challenge and expand their dance abilities.

Over the past two month’s teachers from Beechwood Primary, Manston St James Primary, Whinmoor St Pauls C of E Primary, St Philips Catholic Primary, Fieldhead Carr Primary and Austhorpe Primary have worked with us to identify talented young dancers within their year 3 and year 4 classes. All children within the classes have had fun learning how to warm-up their bodies, practicing set moves and choreographing their own dances. Workshops were designed to challenge all the participants’ technical & creative abilities within dance and allowed their teachers to observe and identify those pupils who showed potential within dance.

The 30 pupils chosen to attend Northern Ballet tomorrow (16 June) will have the opportunity to work with a musician and dance artists from the Company in order to choreograph and perform their own work. This is an amazing opportunity for talented youngsters and we hope that some will be inspired to take up a new hobby and continue to dance in the future.
