On Tour - Stage Door Keeper

Published on Friday 20 September, 2013

Whilst joining the company on tour in Newcastle this week, I met the very friendly and helpful Kirsten Dixon, Stage Door Keeper at the Theatre Royal. Kirsten was kind enough to talk to me about her role and what it is like working in the theatre.

Kirsten Dixon - Stage Door Keeper
How long have you worked here?

'I have been at the theatre for two years but worked on stage door for just two months.'

What is the best part of your job?

'The variety! I like that everyday is a bit different and you don't know what you will get.'

What is the strangest thing that you have seen working on stage door?

'That is easy, I was working on the post and the Woman in Black was stood right behind me, freaked me out.'

If someone was interested in working in theatre and in a similiar role, what should they do?

'I think get as much experience in the theatre as possible. Volunteer where you can and always keep an eye on the local theatre websites to see what is happening and coming up.'

As we are currently touring with A Midsummer Night's Dream, what is the best dream you have ever had?

'A dream I had that was recurring, was dreaming I could fly. I always liked that and used to wake up hoping I really could!'

It really was lovely meeting Kirsten and chatting about working in the theatre, I am sure we could have spoken all day about the interesting things she has seen.
