On 5, 6 and 7 December we asked you to support our Sponsor a Dancer campaign in the Big Give Christmas Challenge – and you didn’t disappoint!

We kicked off the Big Give by welcoming dance students from Headingley Ballet School who presented a £125 cheque towards the campaign following a second-hand uniform sale run by the students to raise money. By the end of the Big Give we had achieved £59,053.80 in donations, beating last year’s total by more than £2,000!

Sponsor a Dancer was set up following severe funding cuts in 2011 to ensure that we can retain a full Company of dancers and continue to perform and create ballets that you know and love. The Big Give Christmas Challenge gives the opportunity, over a three-day period, for your donations to Sponsor a Dancer to be matched allowing Northern Ballet to receive double the funding towards the campaign.

Everyone at Northern Ballet would like to thank everyone who donated to Sponsor a Dancer, not only during the Big Give, but over the last year. Your support allows us to continue to work to the highest standard and has played a major role in enabling us to stage our new production of Cinderella, which we hope you get the opportunity to enjoy, by allowing us to retain enough dancers to perform it.

You can Sponsor a Dancer from just £30 and receive a special sponsor’s pack including a signed picture from the dancer of your choice, a letter from your dancer and an invitation to a special sponsors’ event. The next Sponsor a Dancer event will take place on 5 June where you can ask questions to the panel of dancers and meet your sponsored dancer.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
