The most prominent organisations in Leeds’ cultural quarter on Quarry Hill will throw open their doors on Saturday 2 July, as they invite the public to come backstage and get creative at the Quarry Hill Festival. This FREE and fun-packed event for the whole community will take place between 10am and 6pm, with tickets available to book in advance from www.wyp.org.uk with limited places available on the day.
The Festival, organised by local partnership Quarry Hill Creates, will offer workshops, tours, demonstrations and performances that showcase the sheer variety of creative activity on Quarry Hill. From Rockschool and stage fighting workshops to hints on wedding dances and behind-the-scenes tours, the Quarry Hill Festival will provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved with the area’s artistic community and gain a unique insight into the art being created in the heart of the city.
Northern Ballet, Quarry Hill’s newest resident, is just one of the organisations taking part. Chief Executive, Mark Skipper, said, “We are thrilled to be involved in the Quarry Hill Festival, and excited to be welcoming the public into our new home for the second time this year. It is fantastic to be part of such a vibrant creative community and to have the opportunity to collaborate with our partners on Quarry Hill.”
Wieke Eringa, CEO and Artistic Director of Yorkshire Dance said, “This is the first time all our organisations have worked together to show that Quarry Hill is a fantastic place to visit: it is unique in the whole of the UK to have so many different places to enjoy your own creativity and be inspired by the talent of others, be it in theatre, design, singing, dance or even television! We hope people of all ages and communities will come and hang out with us and sample all the free workshops, performances and arts market, or simply join in for some tasty food and atmosphere.”
Entry to the Quarry Hill Festival is free. Although there will be tickets available on the day, be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
